Valves...

Postby jered » Tue Nov 28, 2006 8:32 am

For those who remember... I had some question as to the valves in my bus...

after much thinking and talking about them... I figured what the heck, lets see if GEX still has info on the motor...

Sure as could be... it's a type 4 (78 model) hydrolic valve motor...

So after 7000+ miles with mis-adjusted valves... I finally know they are hydrolic... maybe I'll get some move uphill power and such with properly adjusted valves... OOF!

Never have owned a VW hydraulic valve engine, I would "think" that if the valves were adjusted to .006 clearance it really wouldn't make a whole lot of difference, especially once the engine was fully warmed up. Keep us posted on the results after your new valve adjustment, I really want to know the outcome. Here's a link I read, you've probably already seen it, but just in case....,

the engine was always "loud" with rattles...

After I adjusted them as required, 2 turns past just touching...

It's quiet!

I don't see any performance gains... but it's a GEX motor... which explains why Eddie's type 1, 1600 can out pull my type 4, 2L...

Pretty much as I was thinking, not much in performance. I am a little surprised it is so much quieter. That's great news!! Thanks fro the update.
